Renting a room in the Cinque Terre

What is the proper protocol for payment when renting a room (B&B or private house) in the Cinque Terre? Is payment made at check out as it is in the US? Thanks in advance to those who can share their experiences.

I have stayed in Cinque Terre twice both times in Riomaggiore. Different places. We paid when we checked out. If we were leaving early in the morning I paid the night before and had no problems.

Hi Joni,

The place we rented from we paid the night before we left. And we could only pay in cash.

have a great trip!

You'll need to have cash. I have stayed in B&Bs where the owner was in and out during the day and evening and difficult to catch. Because of this, I like to pay after I see the room at check-in.

In CT (and elsewhere), though I used a credit card to secure the reservation, I always asked and always received a discount for paying cash (5%-15%).

We found that most prefer cash, and that you do need to think about when you want to leave and will someone be there to take the payment at that time. In our building the manager was only there during mid day. Also, we found that they keep your passport until you pay. There way to make sure you don't skip, IMO.
Enjoy CT

Can anyone recommend any great private rooms they stayed in Riomaggiore? We are traveling on a budget. It seems like most books recommend you just get there in and then figure it out but we are looking to have some options before we get there so we at least know where to start looking. Thanks!
