Renting a car-Rome to Venice

We are renting a car for our week stay in Tuscany after 4 days in Rome. I'm not sure if I should take a train a good distance from Rome and then rent a car or if there is a place on the outskirts of Rome that I can rent a car. I'm just trying to avoid some of the more difficult traffic areas. I really don't want a traffic ticket. We plan on parking outside all the hill towns we visit. Just need the car to get to the agriturismo.

There's a Hertz location adjacent to the Orvieto train station, approximately 1 hr. 15 minutes north of the Rome train station. You could pick the car up there, and drive approximately 100 miles North to where you're staying. The car will give you the freedom to see so much moreand just ramble through the Chianti countryside. You can turn the car in at Hertz @ 53 Via del Sansovino in Florence, which is about 1 1/2 miles north of the train station across the river. Then, take the train into Venezia.
