Renting a car in Sardinia

Hello - how easy/difficult is it to rent a car for travel around Sardinia? We will be visiting Alghero and San Teodoro, then hopefully La Maddalena, then flying out of Olbia. Trying to determine most efficient way to travel in between these places. Not sure if we need to spend the money to keep a car the entire time (would rather not as it can get expensive)?

I rented a car in Sardinia for ten days in September-October through AutoEurope. The Ford Fiesta came through Europcar. Realize that it's almost impossible to rent a car for less than a three day period so it might be necessary to keep it for your whole stay. For ten days, my rental including full non-deductible collision insurance was $377. Because of a lack of public transportation, I would consider a car a necessity.

Renting a car in Sardinia is not any different than renting it anyplace else.
In the past few years I have used consolidators (www.autoeurope.com, www.kemwel.com), although in Sardinia I have also gone directly though Hertz. I don't know which airport you are flying to (there are 3 in Sardinia: CAG, OLB, AHO), but I would rent a car at any airport or at a city location in any of the cities where those airports are. I can't even imagine how one can visit Sardinia without a car.
