Has anyone rented a car in Rome and returned it to Civitavecchia? Returning the car on a Sunday for a cruise. I have heard that rental car agencies are closed on Sundays?

Even though some rental places are closed, some allow you to drop off and use the key drop. In those cases though you can't utilize the rental company's GPS and might want to bring one of your own. We like the autoeurope site too, but use the UK version to sometimes get a better price.

Many rental agencies are closed on Sundays. Those that are open will close early at 12 p.m. or 1 p.m. and will usually be located at an airport or train station location. You may be able to arrange an after-hours drop-off, but make sure that you leave the car and keys with an actual person so that you can look over the car for "damages", full tank of gas, etc... Otherwise you may end up with a bill for damages that don't belong to you or a fuel charge.
