Renting a car in Florence

We rented from Hertz, based in a multi=storey garage not far from the station. Also just outside the car-restricted zone, so easy to exit the city. I am assuming you are not hoping to drive in the city.

Make sure you know where the ZTLs are (not always clearly marked).

Also, pay particular attention to lanes reserved for busses, even across the river from Florence. Again, not always obvious, lane markings can be worn and hard to see, especially at night or if you're focused on trying to find something while driving. Found out the hard way when we got an expensive camera photo ticket across the river from Florence, plus also got a fine from the rental car company for getting a ticket in their car.
