Rentals of motorized scooters for disabled

Is it possible to rent motorized scooters for those with difficulty walking? Can these be used in museums or other tourist sites? Also where does one rent these or even wheelchairs?

Oh !!!!! that is a difficult question. Trying looking under Accessible Europe on the Griaffite Wall. There are a lot of postings on that general subject.

We could not find any place to rent a motorized scooter. Our Italian friend helped and could not find anything either. We ended up renting one from a local shop and taking it with us. We checked the scooter with the luggage. Once we got to Italy, my husband used the scooter everyplace we went. However, some tourist sights and places are not accessible. We would look for a restaurant with easy access in the front door, only to find out that the bathroom was in the back of the restaurant and down a flight of stairs!! The smaller hill towns were easier to navigate. Rome was the most difficult!
Let me know if I can answer any more questions.

I've only ever seen those things in the US. I second the previous poster, Italian cities are very difficult to navigate in a wheelchair or in a scooter, it is just not a very handicap accessible place.

I need to add that even with the difficulty involved it was well WORTH IT! We loved our time in Italy and hope to go back. Do as much research ahead of time as you can. Good luck!
