I will be studying in Florence for eight months. The school is in Porto il Prato section of Florence. Is this a safe area to rent and does anyone know of any agencies or rentals in that area? Also how is the Puccini Piazza? Thank you.
It’s called Porta al Prato.
Every area in Florence is very safe, especially by American standards. So safety should not be a factor for you. Look for convenience for where you need to be.
The area on the south and south-east of Piazza di Porta al Prato (Il Prato, Borgo Ognissanti, Lungarno Vespucci) is one of the most upscale in the historical center. If you find something affordable there (good luck!) it would be great. The US Consulate and the American Episcopal church of St. James are there.
Piazza Puccini is good, a couple of my University professors lived there, but it’s further from the city center, if that is important to you.
There are many websites for rentals that Italians use,but most don’t have an English version.
www.affitto.it
www.idealista.it
www.casa.it
www.immobiliare.it
www.bacheka.it
www.casaclick.it
Soloaffitti.it
There are also those English sites that cater to foreign tourists (home away.com, etc) but they tend to be more expensive.
