We want to one-way a rental car from Palermo to Taormina and am having trouble getting quotes. Any suggestions? Also, I have checked Trenitalia webite for train travel from Taormina to the Amalfi Coast and it seems pretty straight forward - anything I should know or beware of?
We have used economycarrentals.com several times in different countries over the past 3 years and so far have had no problems. We used them to rent a car for 24 days in Sicily earlier this year. They are a wholesaler so you don't know the name of the actual agency until you get the confirmation email. In Sicily we picked up and returned at the Palermo airport but you shouldn't have problems returning to a different location. Good luck!
Margaret, any info you want to share re Taormina to Amalfi Coast would be greatly appreciated!!! I'm doing this too, and need advice. Thanks.
It's a long train ride from Taormina to Amalfi, consider flying from Catania to Naples, taking the Circumvesuviana to Sorrento and the bus down the Amalfi Coast. My planefare two years ago was about $100 one way (not in luding baggage fees, if applicable).
Zoe is right. It's a long way via ground transportation. See if you can fly. Alitalia Cityliner, a regional airline, has flights from CTA to NAP. From NAP airport to Sorrento there is a direct bus service with Curreri Viaggi (10 euro one way). It's actually more convenient from the airport than the Circumvesuviana train from Napoli Centrale. Then from Sorrento you take the Sita bus to the Amalfi coast. If you would prefer a boat option (with Caronte & Tourist), they have a ferry twice daily from Messina to Salerno. But it's a 9 hr journey. I checked the price and it's 42 euro and up per person (much more if you ferry your car). Flying is best, if you find a reasonable price.
I appreciate the responses. We have done the Naples to Sorrento to Amalfi trip several years ago and would like to do something different. Do the ferries still run in October? Don't really mind the 8 or 9 hour trip by train or ferry because we'll enjoy having a do-nothing day.
