Rental car to Castelmuzio in Tuscany?

We are 6 people starting at the Venice Airport and want to end up in Castelmuzio Italy. The delima is where to rent the car (s)? We can train to Florence (earliest start can be 14:00, and then change trains to Tuscany to rent cars but it’s 7 hours.

Or we can train to Florence and drive to Castelmuzio another 1-1/2 hours.

Or we can drive from Venice to Castelmuzio in 3.5-4 hours. Do you have advice as to which option is best?
Also, it appears that 6 people will require a van, more difficult in small towns to maneuver. So should we get 2 smaller cars with unlimited mileage?
We will return cars to Florence

I wouldn’t recommend driving from VCE to Tuscany
Are you coming off an overnight flight?

Can you train to Florence and spend first night there before picking up car?

I would get 2 small cars
A van will be a pain to drive and park

Make sure all drivers have an IDP

We always use Auto Europe.com for our rentals
Most all rentals are now unlimited mileage

There are dozens of posts about car rentals -esp from Florence -a search will bring them up

Thank you, and no we are ending another hiking tour and being dropped at the Venice airport and the earliest train we were told to take is around 2:00 pm that day and we can arrive by 4:30 to Florence to rent cars. The concern was driving from Florence might be scary traffic getting out of town. I had seen another post on the Fodors Forum that it was a "breeze" renting at the Venice airport and driving to Castelmuzio, and it looks like no more than 3-4 hours driving while avoiding Florence traffic. I believe it is 1-1/2 hours from Florence to Castelmuzio so it would be about the same time for both. I realize we'd use more gas through.

Has anyone else driven from Venice to Tuscany?
