Hi, due to unforeseen circumstances we need to return our rental car in Rome. We are currently in Tuscany. I have the address for Budget Rome Tiburtina (Via Teodorico 48) but where exactly do I return the car? The address looks like a storefront based on what I can see in Google Maps.
Thank you!
Good question. Likely in the station parking lot, but you will probably need to check in at that storefront location to find the directions. It is common for city car rental locations to have the cars in nearby parking garages or lots. See if you can contact them in advance.
PS, Careful you do not drive into any ZTLs in Rome and stay out of bus lanes.
Is Tiburtina your only option?
Can you return at FCO and avoid going into Rome?
Roberto usually addresses these types of questions, I would see what he has to say.
We’ve rented from that office several times. It is very convenient to an enterance to an expressway. The office was quite small but we did not experience any difficulty. From the Tiburtina station it us easy to then catch a bus or train.
There is a train strike planned for today, so we don’t want to return to FCO and then struggle to get back in to Rome.
For people who have picked up from Tiburtina, was your car in a garage or parking lot? Where did you need to go after the agent at the counter gave you the car keys?
Oh- didn't realize this was happening today!
I think car rental returns at Tiburtina are in a garage.
There should be some signage- much the same as returning at an airport location. Look for the signs.
Pay attention is the best advice I could give! No personal experience.
I'd probably turn off GPS as you approach Tiburtina station- you don't want to be directed to return car at the street address of office.
Car rental agencies don't want you just dropping cars any old place.
Are taxis striking as well? Haven't really followed.
If you can change to drop at FCO (or even Ciampino airport) and take a taxi from there- that would be simple.
They usually keep their cars parked for pickup here in this street parking lot, that’s where they sent me to pick it up. However just stop in front of the office, get inside for a second, and ask. If they tell you to go to the above lot, you go there, if they tell you to leave it in front, leave it there.
Thank you Roberto! I was having trouble sleeping last night worrying about this. I feel better now :)
