Rental Car Pickup in Rome

When I leave Rome after a week's visit, I would like to rent a car and drive to Tuscany for the second week of my vacation. I'm wondering if there is a recommended rental car pick up location / agency in the city that would be more convenient than returning to FCO Airport to rent a car? Thank you!

Many people take the train from Rome Termini up to Orvieto--70 minute ride--to pickup their rental car. The Hertz agency is just across the street from the train station.

We turned our car in there prior to going into Rome. Orvieto is a very popular hill town that you shouldn't miss.

The Orvieto option (see David's suggestion) is a good one only if:
1. You plan to rent from Hertz (that is the only company operating in Orvieto)
AND
2. You plan to visit Orvieto anyhow.

If either 1 or 2 are FALSE, then the best option is to rent a car in Rome with a pick up at or near the TIBURTINA train station.
The freeway entrance A24/Tangenziale Est is right there next to the station, therefore it's very easy to get on it and exit Rome without having to drive inside chaotic city traffic. That area is also out and away from any traffic restricted zone (ZTL). You can reach the Tiburtina station via metro, bus, taxi.

Orvieto is a lovely, quiet hill town, cobbled walkways, a pedestrian only plaza in front of the beautifully decorated facade of the Church, many small restaurants.. I found it picturesque but not that much to do or see--ok for 1/2 day (others will likely differ in their opinions). Quick train ride (1 hour?) North of Rome, just note hertz rental opened limited hours on Saturday and closed on Sunday,so if you do decide to rent a car at the Hertz place adjacent to the train station, keep the hours in mind. Have a terrific trip.
