rental car - pick up and drop off in different cities

We're planning on renting a car in Pisa on Sunday, July 16, after travelling by train from the Cinque Terre. We'd like to drop in off in Orvieto on the Saturday (July 22) but we're having a hard time finding a company that will allow drop off and pick up in those locations. We could also pick up in La Spezia but Sunday doesn't seem to be an option. We'd also like to pick up somewhere other than the Pisa airport? Suggestions?

Picking up a rental car on a Sunday at someplace other than an airport can be difficult.

Are you able to pick up on other than a Sunday?

Hertz shows one has to call to book a car for pick up at Pisa airport for drop off at Orvieto for your dates. Online booking not permitted at this time.

Ask Andy at gemut.com. They broker rentals from numerous European companies. My pickups and drop offs are usually in different cities, and he's always figured out the details for me.

Yeah Sunday and Saturday have limited or non-existent hours. You might check rental offices with different companies in those areas and see if any are open.

In Italy it usually is no problem and no extra charge.
Other countries it can cost a fortune.

What I suspect the problem in your example is that there may be only one company (Avis, Hertz, Europcar at one location and then the drop off location there is a different one of these companies). You need to pick up and drop off from the same company obviously. Or hours you want one of the paired offices of that company are closed.

if it is where you are dropping off that is closed they may have a drop box and way for you to return your car after hours, in Europe that seems fairly common as the rental office hours are quite limited on weekends yet planes and trains leave all of the time. Of course they need to be open to rent.
Anyway my point is to do the research first on which companies have offices where, their hours and then go to the quoting stage on the websites instead of the other way around since the locations you are looking at are not airports.
If you need to rent on a Sunday and no offices are open you will have no choice than rent from the airport location.

Hertz is the only company that has drop off in Orvieto. Check their European web site.
