Will the rental car lot that used to be at the airport property ever be placed back there again?

Once the new Peretola Airport with the new longer RWY 12-30 is built, probably yes.
Supposedly construction work will start within the end of the year (almost 3 years behind schedule, due to NIMBY-environmentalists’ opposition in various courts), they expect the new infrastructure to be ready within 2 years from the time work starts.Keep you fingers crossed. Once the longer runway is in place, FLR won’t be marred by the numerous flight cancellations due to strong winds. Also probably more Airlines will srart operating from there. It won’t have direct flights from North America however. Pisa didn’t allow Florence to build the runway long enough for wide body planes. It will be 8000ft long. Good enough for all narrow body types (A320 and B737 families) within Europe and Middle East.
