Traveling this spring to Italy. Flying into Rome and flying out of Venice. Planning on picking up the rental car after our tour of Rome and returning before our tour of Venice.
*Do we rent the car at the airport or pick-up in the city. Does anyone have recommendations for rental locations for these two cities?

Renting from the airport will cost you more. Also if you plan to visit Rome, I would rent only after you are done visiting the city because a car in Rome is useless (and expensive to park downtown). There are multiple rental car locations in Rome itself all over the city. Many companies have also at the Termini train station, which is central and easily reachable by all type of public transit (incl. train from the airport). In Venice return your car also in the city, in Piazzale Roma, where all car parks are (beyond there, only boats and gondolas). Most rental companies have offices in Piazzale Roma.

Depending on where you are going between Rome and Venice, it might also make sense to pick up the rental car closer to there. For example if you will be in Tuscany, maybe at Chiusi, where the car rentals are right next to the train station.
