Rental car in Pisa and return in Florence 4 days later

We arrive into Pisa airport on a September mid Thursday afternoon and need to return vehicle in Florence four days later on a Sunday afternoon. Need advice;
1) what rental car company?

2) is it difficult to get out of Pisa airport into Province Siena and staying in Asciano?
3) Do we need international drivers license? We have completed ten RS tours but this is our first car rental.

Thank you

I suggest you look at AutoEurope a 3rd party booking site. It will show the available agencies and prices for various sizes of vehicle.

Google maps should provide you with directions. You can download the map for off-line use. Or use the GPS in the car. If you will be doing much driving, a paper map would be a prudent backup.

An IDP is required for each driver.

Autoeurope is the 3rd party booking site. Europcar is one of the many car companies that is found on the Autoeurope website.

I always use Autoeurope when renting a car and have been happy with prices and service. Often, with Autoeurope I end up choosing Europcar, but not always.

  1. Any that offers the best deal in the www.AutoEurope.com website.
  2. No. Just as easy as driving anywhere in the US. The itinerary will include a portion on a 4 lane highway and a portion on a two lane highway. Tuscany is very hilly, so get used to plenty of curves.
  3. Yes. The IDP (International Driving Permit) is required by law Italian Motor Vehicle Code) for anybody who does not have a European driver’s license. The rental agency will likely ask upyou only for your regular American license. However failure to show an IDP upon request to a highway police officer may result in a minimum fine of €406.
