Our last day in Rome we are going to Ostia Antica. From there we head north to the Cortona area. We're trying to figure out the best place to pick up a rental car. I'd prefer to pick up in Ostia rather than going back into Rome. Can anyone help with ideas?
Also, is there a good place to check your luggage in Ostia so we don't have to lug it around with us? Maybe the train station?

It will be less complicated for you if you go to Ostia any day other than your last day in Rome. It's an easy day trip that way and you don't have your baggage with you with the problem of what to do with it. And then, your departure day go out to the Fiumicino airport and pick up your rental car there and drive northward. No baggage problems, much easier.

I've been thinking about this more... how about this idea. On our travel day, we head to the airport first, pick up our rental car (and stash our luggage in the trunk). Then we drive to Ostia Antica and sightsee. When we're done, off we go to Cortona. Can anyone comment on my plan? Is there a good, safe place car park near Ostia Antica?
