Rental Car in Lucca

I will be arriving in Lucca by train from Florence. Is it possible to rent a car at the train station? If not, how would I get from the train station to the airport? I will go by train to Cinque Terre so I do not want to rent a car and return it in Florence.

Thank You!

Hertz, Avis, and Europcar all have offices in Lucca, but not right at the train station. I'm not clear on where you want to drive. Which airport? They all have good public transportation, though it may require a leg bus instead of train.

Sorry about the confusion. I will arrive in Lucca via train. I do not need to go to the airport. I would like to pick up a car close to the train station. Therefore, I'm looking for rentals at the station or within a close walking distance to the station.

Thanks!

Looks like the rental car offices are 1-2 miles from the train station. Each off in a different direction.

Questions for you:

  1. You are arriving to Lucca from where? Florence right?
  2. How long are you staying in Lucca?
  3. Why do you need a car for exactly?
  4. Where are you headed after Lucca? Cinque Terre or are you stopping somewhere in between?

Depending on your responses you may not need a car at all.

But if you do, the most logical way would be to rent a car in Florence and return itbin La Spezia.

Roberto,

Thank You!

We are arriving in Lucca by train from Florence. We have rented a villa outside the town of Lucca. We plan to take trips in the area surrounding Lucca and, thus, the need for a car.
Our plan was to take a train to Cinque Terre after the rental car was returned.

I would pick the rental car up in Florence.
All rental agencies downtown are on Borgo Ognissanti. If you don't want to drive downtown pick Europcar rent a car. They have an office on 2 Via Forlanini, which would be close to the A11 freeway entrance to Lucca. From downtown it's 10 min by taxi. You could also pick up further out at the Florence airport at the rental center on via palagio degli Spini. However picking up there will incur airport fees and a higher taxi fare. Once in the car follow green sign directions to A11 to Pisa.
As you exit the Europcar garage on via Forlanini turn right in Via Forlanini. At the next light at the intersection with Viale Guidoni turn left. Then straight all the way. Once you pass the airport on your right, the A11 freeway starts. Lucca exit will be on the way to Pisa.

Once you are done with your Lucca stay, drive to La Spezia and return the car there. The La Spezia office for Europcar is near the port very close to the freeway exit. Take a taxi from there to the La Spezia Centrale train station. Hop on a train to Cinque Terre there.
I use a consolidator for rental cars:

(both are part of the same corporate group and work the same way however prices differ at different times so check both websites)
