Rental car help!! Renting on 4/17...

We are trying to rent a car in Florence and return it in Siena
This is proving to be very difficult-or very expensive if we rent through Europcar
Should we just bite the bullet? or do Siena as a day trip and return the car to Florence?
If we drove back from Pienza to Florence, could we take the train or bus to Siena to spend the night there?
Just worried about the time doing that
Please advise if you can!!
Many thanks

Kathy

Florence to Siena by train is only about an hour so driving will be about 45 minutes one way. You could try renting through www.autoeurope.com as it shouldn't be much of an issue to drop off in another city. Otherwise, dropping the car in Florence and then getting out to Siena would work well too. You can find driving directions and times on maps.google.com or on www.viamichelin.com.

You don't mention duration of the rental.

If you rent for a day, it's going to be a hundred bucks plus.
If for a week, it'll drop to fifty or so per day.
In either case, you're going to have to toss another thirty or so per day since your credit card won't cover the cdw in Italy.

Neither Europcar nor Autoeurope may be the best deal. Use a matrix search such as kayak.com and see what you come up with.

The notion of mixing modes of transportation (i.e. renting a car for a very short while, especially if you're already paying for something else) is a budget-buster.

RB Abe, where do you come up with 45 minutes by car? No way that can be done from city center to city center.
