We are planning on renting a car in Siena, driving for a 4 night stay in Montepulciano, then hoping to drop the car in La Spezia before taking train to CT for 3 nights. Can this be done any day of the week including Sundays? I looked on Autoeurope.com but it showed the office is closed on Sunday. Advice please??
Does a different rental company have open hours on Sunday?
Do they have an "after hours" drop off procedure?
Is there some other place to drop it off and take train to CT?
Does a Saturday drop off and train to CT work for you?
Can you shift your schedule?
I checked Autoeurope and Europebycar... what other companies can I check? Was wanting to avoid CT on weekend so suppose we could wait until Monday
Is there only one location? Another option is to drive to the Cinque Terre and park there? If you arrange your hotel in advance they can arrange parking. We did that several years ago. Never used the car, but it saved a train ride. I know the rental is longer, but it is an option.
This is often a problem in Italy with only airport locations having Sunday hours. You might contact Gemut.com, an American company that negotiates and manages rental agreements in Europe. They are true specialists and have great customer service. See if they can give you an option that suits you.
Avis, Budget (same cars maybe better prices) and Hertz are all decent options. Might try Kayak.com's rental car tool with the hours and days you want. Sundays are much harder.
HI Laura,
I've run into the same issue with a rental car and CT on a Sunday. After lots of research, I ended up changing our plans and are now picking the car up on Monday.
Drop the car at Pisa airport then continue by train to Ct
Most non airport or non train station rental locations are closed on Sundays.
By the way that is true in America as well. Check for yourself in your town and see if they are open on Sunday outside of airport locations, you will discover most are closed on Sunday. I live in the Bay Area (not exactly a rural small town) and most non airport rental locations close, and if I want a car on Sunday my only choices are SFO, SJC or OAK airports)
