Hello! I have been reading posts about renting cars in Italy. I called autoeurope and got an offer for $385 for one week for automatic car. I am picking it up in Florence, stay in Tuscany area for 6 nights and drive all the way to Verona and drop it off there.
is this a good plan? or should I just drop it off in Florence and take the train to Verona?
The only reason we wanted to drive to verona was to stop by at Bologna.
any suggestions?
and is this a reasonable deal?
Since Bologna is a big city, on the main train line, and the old town is accessible from the train station by walking, bus, or taxi, car is not very helpful for Bologna. Bologna also would not be high on my priority list if it's taking time away from another city you haven't seen. If you wanted to drive to the Ferrari museums at Maranello, that would be a better use of the car.
Your car rental rate will probably be the same whether you keep if for 5, 6, or 7 days. You can get an estimate of Autostrada tolls and gas costs if you check your route at www.viamichelin.com.
