Rental Car Advice - Rome to Castelmuzio

We're traveling from Rome to Castelmuzio (Siena area) in October, and I'm wondering what advice you all (or y'all, if you prefer!) might have regarding the best location for pick-up. We're spending 2 days in Rome before heading north, and will be returning the car to FCO. We're staying near Villa Borghese in Rome. Should I pick up the car near our hotel (there are locations near Via Veneto), cab to the train station and rent from there, or take the train out of the city a bit? Not sure if getting out of the city is a hassle from either location. I appreciate any advice - thank you!

We picked up a car on Via Veneto and drove out of city to the north. It was a Sunday and easy enough.

I’d pick up from your hotel area (via Sardegna has both Hertz and Europcar, I think).
Getting out of the city is not hard provided you avoid the afternoon peak commute and maybe the lunch commute (around 12:30-13:30) when schools and some businesses close. Mid morning or early afternoon before 3pm would work best.
Avoid picking up and driving out of Rome between 4 and 7:30pm.

Thank you for the advice - we will be leaving Rome on a Saturday morning, so we'll plan to depart from Via Sardegna. Gotta remember to get that IDP!

A related question - is the route from Via Sardegna to the A1 in a ZTL?
