I have rented an apartment in rome for an upcoming holiday and received the rental agreement by e-mail today. On the form they ask for passport information eg. names as they appear on the passport and also the passport numbers. I feel uncomfortable doing this. Is this normal procedure for renting? Thank you

When you check into a hotel, they will ask you to hand over your passport to make a copy. So, yes, this is normal procedure.

Absolutely, routinely required in Italy as you will be registered with the local police department. Indicates that the apartment is more reliable and following the rules. Besides, you name and passport number conveys very little information. Send it via email. Perfectly safe to do so.

Yep, absolutely normal. As pointed out, there's very little that can be done with a passport number.

Good to know! I feel very comfortable with the person I'm sending it to, it's the mode of delivery that makes me nervous. lol

Email is the most secure way that you can send it.
