Rent a car or find other means from Naples to Minori?

We are flying in to Naples in early November and have a hotel booked in Minori. Have already rented a car but now are wondering if we should cancel that as we are reading that it is somewhat dangerous. Would be interested in other's experiences. Thanks.

Sally, We had a car and drove along the Amalfi coast and even over the hills from Ravello to Agri then back to Sorrento. This was this past April and I didn't find the drive difficult at all. I can't see it being terribly busy in early November either. The freedom of having a car to explore the region was great. Enjoy it!

Sally, the only drawback to driving is that the driver can't really see the spectacular views. Bus transportation is great.

Naples Airport to Minori: 1. Airport bus to SALERNO: 7 Euros; 65 minutes (NO SERVICE ON SUNDAYS); 2. SITA bus to Minori: 3.60 Euros (UNICO COSTIERA 90-min. ticket); 60 minutes www.sitabus.it http://www.sitabus.it/sitabus/campania/orarioCAMPANIA/Salerno-Capodichino.pdf http://www.sitabus.it/sitabus/campania/orarioCAMPANIA/QUADROXV.pdf Avoid the hassles of driving and parking: take the bus!!! You can also buy a 3-day UNICO COSTIERA bus ticket for 18 Euros, which will give you UNLIMITED rides on ALL the SITA buses along the Amalfi Coast (Salerno to Sorrento, including Ravello). You can buy this in Maiori the day after your arrival, or the day beforehand in Salerno before connecting to the SITA bus to Maiori. Arriving on a Sunday, or are the NAP-Salerno bus schedules simply not convenient? No problem. Here's what to do: 1. ALIBUS airporter bus from NAP to Naples Stazione Centrale (3 Euros, service every 20 mins); 2. Trenitalia regionale train to Salerno 3. SITA bus to Minori. TICKET FOR 2&3 combined: UNICO CAMPANIA U5 biglietto orari: 3.40 Euros

Driving in the Naples metro area has not been a favorite activity for people posting here, actually some feel it may be one of the worst places in Italy to drive. The Naples airport is just north of the city center, not out in the country. * * * ¶ After Naples, there's the question of which route you plan to take to get down to Minori - there are at least 3 possibilities?

Thanks for everyone's advice. Our concern was certainly navigating the Naples traffic and also driving along the Amalfi Coast. We plan to visit all of the major cities in the area and have been wondering if we would be better with public transportation and/or a driver or just taking the challenge and driving it ourselves.

The drive from Naples airport to the Sorrento/Amalfi Coast area is pretty straightforward and IMO well signposted, if a little congested at times. You do not have to drive anywhere near Naples city itself. Print off a route map before you go from somewhere like Google Maps or Michelin.

How is a car more of a liability than an asset for day trips to Amalfi, Positano, Ravello or Pompeii? Thanks

DO NOT DRIVE IN NAPLES. What I have done when renting a car to drive the Amalfi Coast is to rent in Salerno. I took the train to Salerno and then rented at the train station. Be aware that not all rental agencies are open on Sundays. Those that are open have abbreviated hours. The only trouble with driving from Salerno is that you are going against the flow of tour bus traffic and therefore you will have to negotiate past them on the narrower parts of the road. It's a fun drive though. As an alternative, you could take the train to Sorrento and rent from there.

Since you plan on visiting populated centers, you can reach them easily and cheaply by bus or train without needing to negotiate traffic or finding a place to park. Remember that the car driver will not be able to enjoy any of the scenery. Here's how to do it by public transportation: Amalfi, Ravello, Maiori, Minori, Cetara, Vietri sul Mare, Salerno, Praiano, Positano, Sorrento: Hourly SITA bus. Pompei: One direct SITA bus from Minori in both directions from Monday through Saturday. Naples: Several direct SITA buses from Minori in both directions from Monday through Saturday. Paestum: Hourly SITA bus to Salerno, connect to Trenitalia regionale train before 9:27 a.m.. DISCOUNTS: 3-day UNICO CAMPANIA tourist ticket for 20 Euros (if ALSO travelling OUTSIDE of the Amalfi Coast, e.g. Paestum, Pompei and Naples). Also, 3-day UNICO COSTIERA ticket (18 Euros) for unlimited rides on the SITA buses along the Amalfi Coast (Salerno to Sorrento including Ravello). DON'T confuse these two tickets!!! CAMPANIA ARTECARD: if you plan to visit two or more museums or archeological sites. Many of these tickets also include transportation by bus/train. BEWARE: NO ferries or hydrofoils in November along the Amalfi Coast (except possibly limited ALICOST service to and from Capri). www.sitabus.it www.unicocampania.it www.artecard.it www.ferroviedellostato.it
