I was thinking of visiting this church in May 2026, but reports from current travelers say that the exterior is covered in scaffolding to support renovations. I've searched online but cannot find any reference to when they expect this to be complete. Does anyone know?
Do you mean San Miniato?
Yes...oops....
I think I've decided not to visit it and go to the Badia Fiorentina instead for vespers instead.
I have no time to go up and check in person, but the official website of renovation works stated August 2025 as end of works.
I can't find a definitive date for completion either (not unusual when it comes to restorations) but May is still some months away so just keep an eye on the website and reviews. In any case, I'd still go for the fascinating interior, cemetery and the view even if the exterior is still under scaffolding.
Restoration and scaffolding removal by late 2026 but no exact month or confirmed schedule has been published by the basilica or the Italian cultural authorities yet.
Thanks you for the information.
You mentioned Badia Fiorentina. That is my favorite place in Firenze to attend lauds or vespers. They sing a cappella in Italian, they announce each psalm number (in Italian) and there are books you can follow along in. No public services on Mondays, if I recall correctly - their hermit day.
