Relaxing early Setpember honeymoon in Naples and Ischia

Planning on spending a week to 10 days in south Italy. Fiancee has been reading a series of books by an Italian author and the plot is set in Naples and Ischia. I want to fly into Naples (arriving 11 pm local time), spend a day or two in Naples and then head to the island. Rick's travel guide doesn't seem to cover Ischia.

Suggestions?

Thanks.

Go for it. I've been to Ischia a couple of times, nice for a day trip.

By the way, RS' guides leave out lots of places, try Lonely Planet.

That sounds great, nice combo of city and relaxing place. Ischia is not overrun by American tourists (yet), so go for it! I'm really glad that RS doesn't cover some places.

Have you been to Italy before? Naples can be a bit of a surprise.

Rough Guide covers Ischia. You might also look for guidebooks that cover a more limited area than a general "Italy" guide, such as Cadogan's Bay of Naples and Southern Italy. Now, Procida is the island I'd love to visit, where Il Postino has filmed. Watch that movie and you'll want to go there too!

Naples is a good place if you want to visit Pompeii, Herculaneum and the National Archaeology Museum. There are some interesting sights in the city. I enjoyed a day trip to Caserta too. If you want to see those places, allow more time in Naples.

Ischia sounds like it could be a great honeymoon destination. After spending a few days in Naples last month, I suggest you find a place to stay on your arrival night and go straight to Ischia, then spend your last few nights in Naples, after you've gotten over the jetlag and had some time to relax and ease your way into Italian culture. Naples can be really jarring, especially if you haven't been to Italy yet.
