Is it worth seeing the underground/3rd ring part of the Colosseum tour? Is it so much better than the regular tour?? Assuming a good guide for both.

Both tours are very good. They give the same information but the main difference is where you get to go. The main tour does not visit the underground or third tier. If those areas interest you then book the underground tour. The information on both tours is about the structure and what the site was used for so in terms of information both are very similar.

I have not been on the regular, but the underground, 3rd ring was wonderful. You do get access to more of the arena, and because it is an additional charge, there are not anywhere near as many people around. It would be worth it just to get away from the crowd IMO.
