Regionale Train Ticket

If I have purchased a regionale train ticket from trenitalia for a certain day and time, but would now like to go on the train that leaves on the same day, but at an earlier time, am I able to use the same ticket? Or do I need to purchase a new one? There is no seat assignment or reservation needed for this short 20 minute regional train. To clarify - I purchased online from Trenitalia a ticket from Cosenza to Rome. It involves 2 trains. The first a Regionale train from Cosenza to Paola and the second a Frecciarossa train from Paola to Rome. I have been sent both tickets. The Regionale ticket actually says the train number and time on it. We would like to take the train that leaves Cosenza earlier and gives us more time in Poala before that train leaves. I am hoping I can use the same ticket, but am concerned since it actually says the train number and time on it.

No problem with a regionale. It wasn't a discounted ticket.
remember to validate at the machine just prior to get on board.

All regionale tickets are open tickets that are good for 60 days on any regionale train making the run shown on the ticket. No train information on the ticket outside of 1st class or 2nd class. No specific train, departure date or departure time. No seat reservations either. This is completely different from the high speeds. Simply pick the regionale train you want, validate your ticket before boarding, board the train and find your own seat. If no seats, you can stand. It's like a bus. Once you validate your ticket, you must complete your journey within 6 hours.

...If I have purchased a regionale train ticket from trenitalia for a certain day and time,..... I am troubled by this statement. Regionale train tickets are open ticket that do NOT specify a day and time. Did you purchase on line? If you have a ticket with a specific date and time, then you probably do not have a Regionale ticket but a ticket for another type of train. While the above information is correct if you have a regional ticket but if you do not, then the above information is not accurate. Please clarify the type of ticket and how purchased, and date purchased.

Rose, I have the same question as Frank. Could you provide further details on where and how you purchased the ticket? If you purchased locally from a Kiosk or ticket office, you likely specified which train you wanted to use, and the Kiosk or Clerk then provided a ticket (card). However, as previously mentioned the ticket will be valid for a specific date range, but MUST be validated prior to boarding the train on the day of travel. Once validated, it's effective for a specific length of time (ie: 6 hours on shorter runs). Happy travels!

I would take the ticket to a ticket office and exchange. I have never purchased a regional ticket online because there is no reason or advantage to do so. However, have read postings where it was stated that a regional ticket purchased online comes with more restrictions. I don't know what those restrictions are but it is possible that the online purchase may restrict you to a particular train and time. Don't know why they would do that but it may be possible since you say the regional ticket shows a train and time. I would exchange since there should not be a penalty to do so since all regional tickets are the same price regardless of when purchased. However, I would not get on a train that didn't match that ticket. The Italian's ticket police are very rigid and expensive. This is a new wrinkle so let us know what happens.
