Regionale from Pisa to Siena

On an upcoming trip we'll be flying into Pisa, intending to then take the Regionale to Siena. The change at Empoli is a quick one (5 to 8 minutes). If we want to extend our delay at Empoli for 30-45 minutes (for lunch, or whatever) may we do that and just jump on the next train heading to Siena? I've read that the Regionale tickets are good for 4 hours once validated at the beginning of the journey but am wondering if that 4 hour window applies only to the beginning of the trip or whether it also applies to enroute stops.
Or would I need to book two separate tickets? TIA

It means that your trip from A to D has to be completed within four hours. You can get off a B and C as long as the total trip is done within the time window. The clock starts the minute you validate the ticket. So don't validate the ticket an hour or two ahead of time. A while back someone posted that they thought they were being efficient by buying the ticket the day before, validated it so that they would really to go the next day, but was nailed the next day with a substantial fine for not having a valid ticket.

I don't exactly know what you meant by or were asking ---- "that 4 hour window applies only to the beginning of the trip or whether it also applies to enroute stops." Since tickets are cheap just buy two tickets if you think you are going to exceed the time window.
