Regional Transit in Calabria

My friend and I are making plans to visit Guardia Piemontese, small village in Cosenza, where his grandmother grew up. Our plan is to arrive by train in Paola in the evening, spend the night there, and head in to Guardia Piemontese early the next morning and take the train back out of Paola late afternoon the next day (just a quick little sentimental detour).

I see that there is a local train that will take us from Paola to Guardia Piemontese Terme, on the coast, but it looks like a lengthy hike from there up the mountain. Not saying we're opposed to this by any means, just wondering if anyone is familiar with any bus service that connects this area's moderately remote hill/mountain villages.

From what I can infer from a few things I've pieced together reading online, it appears there is bus service of some sort, but I can't determine what companies or any other details. Anyone have any suggestions?

Adam,

This may be the bus that you will need: http://www.autoservizipreite.it/modules.php?name=Orari

Click on 'Autolinea Regionale n° 7 ' to see bus schedule.

It looks like you can take this bus from Cosenza all the way to your destination or from Paola to Guardia Piemontese.

  • Note that the blue highlighted columns (#4, 9 & 11) do not operate on Saturdays.
  • You can purchase tickets on board.
  • There is no bus service on Sundays or holidays
  • The bus schedule is effective from September 8, 2014 to June 30, 2015

Hope this helps!
