Regional train ticket is part of another ticket

So I just bought a Meran to Lindau ticket through the Austrian ÖBB site and it consists of two parts, the regional train Meran to Bolzano, and then Bolzano to Lindau. Would I still need to do the online check in for the regional train part, or is that waived because it’s part of another overall ticket. Also what if the same scenario applies for Italy only tickets where part is on the express trains and part is on a regional train?

What does the regional ticket say? If check in is required it should be mentioned.

Note that Sud Tirol has an integrated, zone based tariff system similar to what exists in most German speaking countries. So your ticket is probably not a Trenitalia Regional ticket.

What is your date of travel? According to Trenitalia, the service between Meran and Bolzano is all buses, either Treno/BZ or SAD bus. That is for the dates I checked in June and July.Regional trains appear on that route in August and September.

When I've had a regional and a high speed ticket bought together I still did the check in on my app... it had the message to check in so I did. I've never done online just on my app.

Interesting, my ÖBB itinerary information says it’s the 9:46 regional train 22430 on August 2, arrive in Bolzano at 10:26.

The regional ticket says nothing about a time, just a date. Says nothing about online check in etc. it’s labeled a Guntar standard ticket (umlaut over the u) it does have a qr ticket code. I opted for the pdf print out option.

The Bolzano to Lindau ticket otoh, has all the time and connections on it.

What you have is this:

https://www.suedtirolmobil.info/en/tickets/holidays-and-recreation/connect-your-db-or-oebb-eurocity-ticket

ÖBB has a deal with Südtirolmobil that for 5 Euro you can use all public transport in the region on the day you arrive/leave if you also have a ticket for the EC/RJ services to Austria (and beyond).

ÖBB calls those add-on tickets "GÜNTAR", what is short for "Grenzüberschreitendes Nahtarif", or literallly "Cross border short distance".

Regional transport is a matter of the Regions in Italy, and Südtirol has decided to do it the Austrian way, not the Italian way...

So you are good...

Excellent. Thanks for help on this. Still amazed at my 28 euro price for these tickets. That price just popped up yesterday for the first time ( hadn’t checked for a week or so) as far as I can tell and gone again today.
