hello, Travel will be Sept 12 from Sorrento and we are travelling to Florence. When I check the rail sights Trenit and Trainline it seems that the trains leave mid afternoon with arrival in Florence approx 8pm. However when I check out of Naples there are earlier trains. So my question is ...how do I look up regional trains for Sorrento to Naples or should I pay the price and hire a private transfer ?
thank you in advance
Monika
You’ll take the Circumvesuviana train from Naples station. You don’t have to pre-purchase as the trains run every few minutes. Just buy your tickets at the station. It’s easy to figure out. Have fun!
The regional trains from Sorrento to Naples have all the charm of a NYC subway. They are crowded, often SRO, hot, and kind of run on a "schedule".
If you want more dependable travel, you can use private transportation, but they are still attempting to move on very congested roads. The infrastructure south of Naples is very neglected.
We used Aldo Limos, and I do recommend them.
Note that trail line a third-party seller, it best to use the direct rail apps.
After recognizing the realities on the ground, have a great trip and enjoy!

Buy your tickets at the station
Trenit and Trainline are not rail sights-they are 3rd party resellers
Use the official train site

September schedule will be up by June 9
You can check same day of week now to see what your options should be
Schedules don’t change much
Italian station names:
Napoli Centrale
Firenze SM Novella
In general, Circumvesuviana stations (other than Naples) are unattended, to save money. Tickets are sold in the newsstand beside the station. You "validate" the untimed ticket in a machine on your platform before boarding.
The schedule is not 100% reliable. So if you have a discounted Frecciarossa ticket in Naples that is not changeable or refundable, leave extra time.
In summer, the Circumvesuviana is sweltering, jammed tight, and has no suitcase racks. But its really inexpensive.
The Sorrento station also has a ticket office. Trains run about every half hour and costs about €4. We used it multiple times during our 2 week stay last year. It was fine for us. Plenty of people had luggage and even when the train was jam packed, people would just shrug their shoulders and step around the bags.
There is also the Campania Express- which is the same train line as Circumvesuviana just prettied up for tourists.
Has fewer runs, assigned seats, air conditioned and room for luggage

If schedule worked this is train I would take to/from Naples/Sorrento
