Our youngest is taking a seminar there and I was wondering if anyone has info about lodging and surrounding areas? We are going to be there at least 7 days for leisure. I don't mind driving. I cant find any good lodging at the town directly. I would like to rent a holiday flat that has 2 bedrooms. I am an experienced traveler :)

Have you tried booking.com? I just went into it and selected apartments in the 'filter' and there were some options. Airbnb also has options. When are you intending to be there?
Alternatively, could you stay in Parna or Modena and your child could make the 15 minute train trip to Reggio each day. Both cities offer a lot with far more acxommodation options and you could do day trips to Bologna, Ravenna etc.
