My husband and I will be visiting the Naples area for ten days in October 2023. We will be visiting areas in and around Pompeii as well as the Amalfi coast using public transportation. We are considering Reggia di Caserta as a possible day trip from Naples. There are some older posts (5-10 years ago) in the forum recommending it. Has anyone visited it recently and could give more current information? Specific directions for train travel from Naples would be appreciated as well. I expect we would stop into Caserta for a meal as well. Thank you in advance.
We had a 2-night stay in Caserta planned for our 2020 and 2022 Italy trips that we did not take. My husband had learned about the palace in Caserta from his Italian tutor, and wanted to see it.

My husband also wanted to try the pizza at Pepe in Grani, reputed to be the “best pizza in the world”.

I see that a different place in Caserta won that recognition in 2020:

But we did not take those trips, so I have no personal experience with the pizza or the palace. I can tell you there are frequent trains to Caserta from Napoli Centrale, many taking about 40 minutes. So it would be an easy day trip.
My husband and I went in October 2021. We took the train from Naples and you can practically see the palace from the train station. We wandered the streets later and ate. The Reggia is amazing and we really were glad we went. Just take the train from Napoli Centrale and you won't have any problems.
Thank you for the feedback. I will definitely put the palace on our list and check out the website. It's good to know that the palace is so close to the train station. Thank you for the links for the best pizza; Francesco Martucci's I Masanielli's eatery is definitely worth a visit.
For a trip of this length, you might save money with the annual Campania ArteCard. It covers all the major excavations, the palace at Caserra and a lot of sights in Naples. Because of the extended validity period, you don't need to worry about squeezing visits to covered attractions into just a few days. It's extremely easy to buy the card through the ArteCard app. Attempting to buy the card in person is not recommended.
The app sometimes fails to open when you're at a museum, so write down your card/order number during the purchase process. That will get you into the museum if the app is uncooperative.
Thank you for the information on the Arte card. I will look into it.
