Reduced Price Tickets

I am researching museums and sights in Venice and plan to buy some tickets online in advance. When the website states that there are reduced price tickets for people over 65, does that apply to all seniors? Or are they only referring to EU citizens?

An example of one website is Ca’ Rezonnico. We don’t want to purchase tickets online and then show up with the wrong tickets. Your help is much appreciated!

You have to check each website for the policy. Ca’ Rezzonico says you can buy reduced price tix online for “ visitors over 65”. That means everyone, not just EU or Italian citizens. Contrast to the free tix for Venetians—- they cannot be bought online because they have to show ID to qualify. So they get a voucher to exchange for the free ticket onsite after they see a real person.

The Ca Rezzonico websites says the following:

Reduced Ticket: 7,50 euro * Children aged from 6 to 14; students aged from 15 to 25; visitors over 65; holders of the Rolling Venice Card; holders of ISIC – International Student Identity Card.

It doesn't specify that one has to be a citizens of Italy or EU. Only reference to citizenship is free tickets for "Venetian citizens and residents"

Our experience is that Spain is the only country that gives a blanket senior discount. Other countries limit it to EU retirees. Just show your passport. We have not traveled in the last five years so things may have changed. But just ask -- they say yes or no. Simple.

I've received discounts at many museums in many different countries--so many that I can't tell you which ones. The amount of the discount ranges from very small (10%-15%) to about 50%. In general, odds of receiving a significant discount seem best at government-run museums and historical sights as opposed to commercial sights (such as the various Gaudi-related sights in Barcelona).

Thanks to you all for your input. Very helpful. I’ll read the info on each website and make my decision accordingly.
