We are seasoned travellers, but age is starting to be a factor. Our flight arrives in Rome around 7 AM. In the past, we were able to get in some further travel or other activities, but that is more difficult now after an overnight flight. So, needing to crash somewhere is important. Does anyone have tips for early check in at hotels or B&Bs in Rome, ideally near the Vatican, or a Metro station?
The only foolproof way would be to reserve the night before and tell the hotel when you will arrive.
LIZin PA is right but you could also try this: don't try to rush out of the airport. You get in at 7? Figure it will be amost 10 before you get to your hotel. They might let you check in early or at least they'll store your bags. If you can't get into the room the clerk might give you an idea when you can (hopefully earlier than the regular check in time). Stay close, have a walk, eat lunch, check back at the hotel. You never know - you may get lucky! I'd say the same goes for a B&B.
We look for a hotel with a pool or sauna with shower so if room is not ready we can at least shower.
