Does anyone happen to know if Rick is planning on releasing a book that covers southern Italy and Sicily? I'd love to have someone that actually works at RS to comment if they can shed any light on that topic. Also are there any other books that people have used in the past with success? I've done some VERY preliminary research but it looks like the number of dedicated guide books to that part of italy are relatively limited.
Try Rough Guides and Blue Guide. Both have a book specifically for Sicily.
The Rough Guide is excellent, especially on all things architectural. They had forgotten an obscure chapel in Palermo, but that is the extent of my critique.
Michelin Green Guide for Sicily plus DK Eyewitness Sicily.
Blue Guide just updated this year and it is great for historical and sight information. Lonely Planet is good for hotels and restaurants. Both have fairly new Sicily specific books.
This question comes up often. A Search came up with this recent post in RS blogs:
"I’m {Rick} preparing for my spring research trip, as I do every year at this time, and I can hardly wait to get back on the guidebook-research trail. This season, I’ll be working on guidebooks in Ireland, Scotland, Italy, France, Germany, and even getting started on a *new guidebook to Sicily***. "
It will no doubt take awhile for this to be published, but at least it answers the question.
