We are staying at an airbnb in Aurelio not far from Hotel Alessandrino. What is the best inexpensive transportation from the Leonardo da Vinci (FCO) airport?
Hi Carol,
I'm not sure how close you are to Hotel Alessandrino, but here are the directions from the Hotel's website:
Directions from Leonardo Da Vinci airport (Fiumicino) to Hotel Alessandrino:
By the train to Hotel Alessandrino: The train station is located inside the airport. There is a FS Metro shuttle train ( follow directions for the train station FS sign from internal of Arrival ) , with departures every 15 minutes ( Line from Fiumicino to Fara Sabina or Orte ) The journey takes approximately 15 mins to arrive to Roma Trastevere Station where you have to get off and bring the FS Metro train with direction Cesano/Viterbo or Civitavecchia/Grosseto for only one stop and get off on San Pietro Station (3 mins from Trastevere Station). Exit form the train station and take the left Via Clivo di Monte del Gallo for 150 Mt and then the take on the right Via Monte del Gallo for 300 Mt where you ll'find on the left Via Clemente Alessandrino and the entrance of the Hotel.
A ticket should be less than 10 euros. Hope that helps!
I would consider taking the local train from FCO (on the track next to the express train) to Tratavere station and then switching to another local train that goes right to San Pietro station. (I'll check the other train name). This would be the least expensive and most direct route.
I checked- the loccsl train from FCO to Trastevere station is FR1. Then the locsl train from Trastevere to San Pietro is FR3 or FR5. Hotel Alessandrino is near San Pietro station.
Travel light. Its up hill all the way.
I would strongly suggest you consider taking a taxi for all or part of this trip. If you were to try to walk from San Pietro Station to that hotel, you'll be going up either long, steep cobblestone streets or lots of stairs. Take a look here at this Google Maps Streetview look at what you have to deal with once you leave the pedestrian underpass from the San Pietro Station.
The simplest, easiest and fastest way to get to that hotel would be to take a taxi from the airport for 48 euros total. (Don't tip.)
Option 2 would be the train to Trastevere station, then a taxi from there to your hotel. Probably cost for the taxi about 15 euros. (Don't tip.)
Option 3 would be train to Trastevere, train from their to San Pietro, then taxi from San Pietro to hotel, prob. about 12 euros. (Don't tip.)
When you think of how valuable and limited your vacation time is, the 48 euro ride from the airport might be a justified splurge.
Happy travels.
