recommended hotels in Centro Storico of Rome

Hello friends! I am planning a spring 2020 trip back to Italy, likely starting in Rome for maybe 4 nights in late April. Last time I was in Rome, I stayed near Termini, which was OK, but not special. This time I thought I would try to stay in the Centro Storico, near the Pantheon, Campo di Fiore, etc. I have seen past hotel recommendations on this forum, and wonder if any of you have personal experience in this area. While I do not need luxury, I would like something a step up from basic, meaning a little space in the room, maybe a roof terrace or balcony, ideally a nice included breakfast. I'd love to stay around 150 euros or less per night. I will look on Booking.com, in RS books, etc. but would certainly appreciate any personal recommendations you might offer. I should add that I am not necessarily committed to the Centro Storico, and would certainly be open to recommendations in other especially nice areas of Rome. Thanks!

Last September I stayed in an Airbnb rental in the same alley as La Tavernetta 48 (great restaurant) about a 3 minute walk from the Pantheon. We thought it was the perfect tucked away location to walk anywhere in central Rome. Based on a quick search on Google maps it looks like there are a few hotels and bed & breakfasts around there (Assunta Domus looks like a very nice one within your budget). I personally wouldn't stay any closer to the Pantheon because I found it extremely crowded and noisy walking through there day and night. An alternative area, though not as central, is the Monti neighborhood. We stopped at a cafe near some hotels there on our way to the Colosseum and really liked the vibe. Hope this gives you a little bit of perspective. Good luck!

Hotel Smeraldo might fit your needs. I've stayed there twice and absolutely love this place. It's a lovely hotel, very close to Campo Fiori, with a fabulous breakfast and lovely rooftop terrace (great place to drink a glass of wine and look over Roman rooftops in the evening). Depending on your room needs, the price might come in close to the top of your budget, but some of the double/twin rooms are rather small - very comfy and well-appointed - but small. Read reviews and look at photos on booking.com.

Hotel Navona is centrally located 1 block from Piazza Navona. Near Pantheon and close to everything. Great staff, nice rooms in renovated building, full breakfast and elevator.
