Recommended booking time to see the Last Supper

Hello,

I'm arriving in Milan at 8 am on a Tuesday morning this September. I would like to see the Last Supper (the site also includes entrance to the Brera art gallery), but I know I need to afford about 1.5 hours to travel to the Milan Central train station, drop off my luggage (how much does that cost?), and then take the transit to where the Last Supper is located.

Later that evening, I was thinking around 6, I'll take a high-speed train to Venice, where I'm staying (circa 2 hours). I can check in to my lodging as late as 11 pm there.

Does it seem wisest to book a ticket to the Last Supper + Brera art gallery (for one person) at either noon or 1, that way I don't have to stress too much traveling from the Milan airport or to Venice? It seems that I would be able to walk easily (young and healthy) to the Milan central train station after finishing up at the Brera.

Thanks!

When we did it three years ago. We arrived on the United from Newark at 8:50am. It took about an hour and a half to get our luggage, get through customs and travel by train to central station. We then walked a bit, grabbed lunch, visited the Duomo and visited the Church of Santa Maria delle Grazie. We purposefully booked a 2:30pm time for Last Supper just in case the flight was delayed. Worked out perfect.

Kmont,
I would probably book it for later, as Joe Hawaii did, just in case of unforeseen delays ( flight, passport checkpoint, baggage claims, etc...)

Please keep in mind that there may be a line to drop off & pick up your luggage at Milano Centrale.

Kmont,

Just another thought...

If you will be flying home from Malpensa, you might want to spend the night before your flight in Milan, then you can visit the Last Supper that afternoon.

Keep in mind that you may be jet-lagged on the day of arrival & you may just want to get to Venice earlier.

Have a wonderful trip!

EDIT: If you decide to see the Last Supper the day before your flight home, you may want to stay in a hotel near the Cadorna station,
as the Malpensa Express train gets to Malpensa faster than from Milano Centrale (35 mins. vs 52 mins.)

Thank you everyone, again!

The normal Last Supper tickets were already sold out [I did not grow up in a traveling family, so doing my best here :)], so I had to get a 2:30 ticket for a "Grand tour of Milan" in order to see it. However, this tour actually involves a bus (a company called Zani Viaggi, anyone hear of it?), so I've asked them if I could simply keep my luggage on the bus to avoid checking my luggage at the train station altogether.

Direct responses:

-- I'm also flying from Newark and arriving at 8am, and via Lufthansa, which I've heard is an excellent/efficient airline. Hopefully 5.5 hours will suffice, especially with the potential missing step of dropping off luggage at the train station. If they can't get me there on time, I suppose it wasn't meant to be :P

-- I would stay in Milan, but unfortunately I'm presenting at a conference in Venice the following morning. So I'm hoping my relative youth and fitness will keep me afloat.

Kmont,
It's good to hear that you're going on a "Grand Tour" of Milan!

Where do you have to meet the tour bus?

Kmont,

At Zani Viaggi Agency: Foro Bonaparte, 76 – MM1 Cairoli – MM2 Lanza

I just checked google map & the agency is very close to both the Cadorna & Lanza stations.
You can actually walk from there (either station) or transfer at Cadorna (MM2 green) to the MM1 (red) & get off at Cairoli.

Have a great trip!

Edit: You can buy the Metro ticket at the tobacco shop on the left side as you approach the Metro entrance at Milano Centrale: http://www.milanocentrale.it/en/store/detail/tabacchi-la-trottola1
