Hello all,
In late June we will be driving from Sienna to Castelrotto. We plan to stop somewhere about halfway between for about 2-3 hrs to stretch our legs, grab a bite, and poke around a little.
I'm not sure about Bolonga due to its size. Modena ? Are there any other "backdoor" places to see ?
We would welcome any recommendations.
Thanks,
Bill
If you're looking for a backdoor location, stop at Mantua. Another nice option is Verona with a great historical old town - Roman Arena, nice piazzas, "Romeo & Juliet" references.
Ferrara or Vicenza?
Perfect, those options sound great. Now we just have to decide. Oh to have an extra day to see all of them.
Thanks
bologna is very enjoyable place where you can experience different things - namely art, culture, history and.....a lot of food! i visited because was so called "the food capital of italy" and found out deserves this name. it is also a romantic city hosting the oldest university of the world! would make it!!!
alternatives - Mantua or Verona
Bologna had the oldest university in Europe (11th century), the oldest in the world is in Fez, Morocco, University of Karueen (founded in 859).
Ferrara is a good stop, lovely historic center, quiet - hardly any cars, most of the residents get around on bikes. I'd avoid Verona in opera season.
