Recommendations for wineries to visit

2 days in Siena and 2 days in Montalcino should provide opportunities to visit wineries. One of the things my wife and I want to do during this trip is to accumulate some good wine and take it home with us. It seems there are a lot of wineries - some of the names I am familiar with since I buy the wines here in the U.S (Banfi, Col d'Orcia, Ciacci Piccolomini). Rather than buy wines in Italy that I can easily buy here in the U.S., I'd prefer to visit wineries and buy good wine that is difficult or impossible to obtain here. Any recommendations would be appreciated.

Nostra Vita winery near Montalcino. They only make Brunello and Rosso di Brunello and only sell it locally. Very nice family operation in a beautiful setting. Need to call ahead for an appointment.

hey stuckart
you'll have a fun time in italy. lots of wineries everywhere. since you're there in september with harvest season and festivals check out:
greve in chianti september 6-9 2018, may have a shuttle to festival
panzano main square september 13-16
montefioralle divino september 22-23.
in venice you may want to do a cicchetti pub crawl. look up schezzini.it alessandro does the crawl with finger foods, wine, and venice history.
in rome you may want to check out oldfrascatiwinetours.com a 30 minute train ride from rome. also look at ceralli.it 4 generation family all in one bakery, pizza oven and famous for their porchetta. walk around the small village, shop, people watch, have lunch train back to rome. enjoy
