Recommendations for travel throughout Southern Italy

I am planning a cruise that disembarks in either Bari or Brindisi in Sept or early October...
Seeing as they are located in the same general area, I would like recommendations to self-drive (car rental) beginning from either point to highlight & include the following overnights:
Naples/Pompei/Capri
Amalfi Coast
Sicily
*NOTES:
*Have 5 -6 nights total to make this trip
*Tentatively flying back from Naples to US at end of trip.
*Please provide recommended itinerary *& # nights in each location
Greatly appreciate any assistance!
Thanks Ravco

I would just do Puglia, Basilicata (Matera), Amalfi Coast, Pompeii and Naples. There are many interesting sites in all of these places. Sicily deserves more time- I'd save for another trip. We spent 2 weeks in just Naples and along the Amalfi Coast this spring, and we could have spent more time in both.

There is no way to visit all these places in six days (5 nights?). From Bari or Brindisi, drive to Matera for one or two nights, plan on one or two nights in Napoli at the end, in between spend the rest of your time in Sorrento.

Thank you for your valuable input & recommendations!
This being an entirely new venture, I wasn't sure what locations were best to highlight given my limited time frame.
We will revise our itinerary accordingly & save the Sicily & Calabria portion for another trip.

?Are the car rental drop off charges expensive if say I pick-up in Bari & drop-off in Naple before flying back home?
Also, do you recommend any specific car rental company to rent from locally?
Thanks Very Much;

Do exactly what Zoe recommend.

Drop the car in Sorrento when you arrive and use ferries and busses to travel the Amalfi coast.

Then train to Naples (you don't want to drive here) and Alibus or taxi to the airport.

Edit: for car rentals, use AutoEurope or Kimwel, both part of the same company. Go with whichever is cheaper.
