Recommendations for the Amalfi Coast during May/June 2015, including flying from Barcelona.

I am planning a trip for May/June 2015. Would like recommendations, suggestions and comments with regard to flying from Barcelona, what cities to make our home base, accommodations, public transportation, sightseeing.

Thank you.

I flew vueling from Naples to Barcelona one time.....very easy...

Sorrento or Amalfi would be the best home bases because they are hubs of transport.....just depends on what atmosphere you're looking for.....

ferries are the easiest and most relaxing way to travel! (ports of Amalfi, Positano, Capri, Salerno, Naples)

Pretty easy to catch a ferry to Capri to Positano and it is pretty centrally located on the Amalfi coast. My favorite town to visit was Ravello

We liked Sorrento a lot. If you can fly to Naples it is an easy shot by train to Sorrento. From Sorrento, we took a train one day to Pompeii, boat one day to Positano, and also visited Herculaneum. There are hiking choices in the area. Capri is also accessible by boat from Soreento, as are other transportation options to more destinations. We stayed in the hotel Mignon Muebles...modest, friendly, good location for walking town and to/from train station. There are no sea views from this hotel. Sorrento is very pretty and it is a nice place to stroll and sup and sip in contrast to killer sightseeing. Have a good trip.

You can find flights within Europe using Skyscanner and there is a good chance you will find something fairly affordable. I recommend making Sorrento your home base since it has good connections to the Amalfi Coast towns, Pompeii, Capri, etc. You can find more of Rick's recommendations on what to see and how to reach each destination (ferries, Circumvesuviana rail line, private drivers, etc) in his Italy guidebook.
