Recommendations for stay in/near Castelrotto

Spending 3 nights, 3rd week in June, in Dolomites, doing a few hikes with our boys 9 and 11. Castelrotto/Alpe di Suisi seems like best bet for our family. Any recommendations for farm stays, apartments or rentals beyond what's in the Italy 2013? There are seemingly a million choices and the standard hotel rooms are too small for us. Hoping to find something for about $100 night. Thx!

I don't know if this proves Sasha wrong, but I found this 2-bdr. apartment on Tripadvisor for $106 per night: http://www.tripadvisor.com/VacationRentalReview-g187859-d3782157-Abendrot-Castelrotto_South_Tyrol_Province_Trentino_Alto_Adige.html It is outside Castelrotto (views look great in the photos) and has a 3-night minimum (iinstead of a week which most apartments have). Hotels in the Dolomites are expensive (around 42 to 60 euro per person per day), but are a high standard and most include dinner (half-board) in the price. I thought Berghaus Zallinger might work for you as a "farm stay" (they breed Haflinger horses), as they have quad rooms. But even the lowest-priced quad, with bathroom down the hall, is 48 euro pp for adults, with some reduction for children. (That does include breakfast and dinner) Here it is if you want to check it out: http://www.zallinger.com/ It is way up on Alpe di Siusi, at the far end, below Sasso Piatto. I've always wanted to stay here.

I hope someone will prove me wrong, but I don't think you will find much of anything for 4 people for $100 in this area.

They have changed their website, though. I wonder if they still raise the Haflinger horses? The link to "Haflingerzucht" doesn't work. One of the things I love about hiking in the Dolomites is the horses wandering around-we came across a group of Haflinger mares and foals up on Schlern. They were very sweetmuch nicer than the rowdy cows one meets in Switzerland.

Wow, thanks for all the research - have sent out inquiries and we'll see what we get back. Am happy to bump up the price for a character-filled spot. Villa Pircher was full and recommended their friends at Villa Tilia, which is also full. Did not expect it to be so busy that time of year. Am also finding some good leads through the area tourism sites.

We loved Ortisei and Hotel Garni Walter, with cable car access to the Alpe di Siusi a short walk away. It's an hour's bus ride from Castlerotto. There are many options in Ortisei and it isn't high season yet in June, so rates are not too bad. You can read my trip report here.

You might check in Val Gardena. That is where Ortisei, where Laurel stayed, is. Lots more lodging choices than Castelrotto.
