Recommendations for Rome restaurants

Hello, we will be staying at Hotel Mascagni for three nights next month and would appreciate any nearby restaurants recommendations. We don't mind a bit of a walk. Thanks in advance.

I have no idea where your hotel is located . Near the Pantheon is Armando al Pantheon, a wonderful trattoria. Book a reservation online before leaving home. Very popular.

About a 10-12 minute walk from your hotel is one of our favorite Roman Pizzerias, Al Forno Della Soffitta https://www.alfornodellasoffitta.it/en/. Reservations highly recommended.

For something fancier, a 10 minute walk the other direction is the excellent Colline Emiliane https://www.collineemiliane.com/en/. Again, I would reserve.

Even closer, about 8 minutes on foot, is Osteria Quarantaquattro https://www.osteriaquarantaquattro.com/ which has online reservations. It seems to have changed ownership sone we were there during our tenure in Rome. We liked it very much at that time. Online reviews are still good.

About 5 minutes away on foot are two bars (cafes) I used to enjoy when I worked at the nearby American Embassy, Momo and Josephine, both on via Leonida Bissolati. Good places for morning coffee and pastry or an aperitivo later in the day, even a quick lunch.

A note on reservations: They are really obligatory for anywhere decent and generally dining starts no earlier than 1930. At that hour, the restaurant may seem — or even be — empty but tables are reserved for later diners so even if you peek in and see empty tables and assume you will be seated, more often than not you will be turned away. Wander up Via Veneto and you will find a place to eat without reservations or at an earlier hour, but it won’t be very good, IMO.
