Recommendations for Rome accommodation in Campo Dei Fiori or Trastevere

We'll be in Rome for our first visit in October and are after suggestions for accommodation in the Campo Dei Fiori or Trastevere areas. We want to be within walking distance of the historical sites as well as enjoy the food, night life and energy of Trastevere. You might say one foot on either side of the Tiber. We'll be here for 7 nights so we're thinking an apartment, but are open to all suggestions. Budget wise we wouldn't like to go to far over 250 euro per night. Thanks for your help.

We stay at Villa Matissa on Via Dandolo 21 in Trastevere. We have stayed there several times and book directly via their website; although they do have limited availabilities via booking.com

The owner, is fluent in English and very helpful. They have several rooms with private en-suite baths and two studio apartments.

The B & B / hotel is essentially a private home within a gated, secure compound. The home / hotel is secure with guest rooms on the first and second floor; the owners live upstairs. The garden is lovely and we frequently dine/sip wine/spritzs in the garden while reading or snacking on cheese and crackers.

As I said above, we have stayed there several times. Communication is great via WhatsApp. We also have them arrange transportation from the airport (or train station) to / from the hotel for us. While a few euros more than a cab, it is worth it to us—completely stress free and very comfortable / professional.

In terms of location, it is not in the “middle of the action” of Trastevere; however, we walk everywhere we want in Trastevere and frequently cross the Tiber walking to the Coliseum, Jewish Quarter and Campo de’ Fiori. Admittedly it is a bit of a hoof, but really not bad - we are in our late 50s and 70 and have no issues. Also, we have not felt uncomfortable walking at night.

Thanks salbeachbum for this place. It's probably a little away from where we want to be, but I'll keep it in mind as I've read reviews about this area saying how authentic and nice it is. Appreciate your time in responding :).

These are the apartments we stay in every time we visit Rome…the
location cannot be beat. We just stayed in our favorite Blue apartment
last month. https://www.floraliahomes.com/

Thanks, jconsol!

Campo de' Fiori is our 'place' in Rome too! 4 different trips, staying up to a week. First time in 2010, when the market was still mostly fruit & vegetables. That has morphed into more packaged stuff, but a handful of my favorite fruit vendors are still there, and the spice blend guys.

Timewise, we usually visit in February-April, where the piazza is busy but not overrun. And in those months, no A/C needed and you can open the big windows, let the fresh spring air in and breathe in the sounds from the busy market below. Some might be deterred by that, but it's white noise to me and mostly settles down by midnight. And so close to everything...Trastevere a few minutes walk one way and Piazza Navona the same the other way. We made it to my cousin's wine bar in Prati in 30 minutes, great walk. I like the close-by restaurants, bakeries & salumerias owned by the Roscioli family. It keeps me fed whilst in Rome, steps away from where I'm staying. It really is a neighborhood and truthfully not as touristy as it's purported to be. In fact, I'd rather people think that way, so they'll stay somewhere else!

For an 11-day visit next March, I have my eye on an AirBnB above the La Carbonara sign at one end of the piazza. But I have also inquired about this 'Blue' apartment of yours--it looks fabulous and not overly pricey--I've seen much higher!
