We're trying to decide on a place to stay for the first two weeks of October, 2024 in Montepulciano. Is it better to stay in town or in the surrounding area? Can anyone recommend a VRBO or AirBnB they've rented? We only need a one bedroom, though two would be okay. Thanks.
We loved Meublé Il Riccio in Montepulciano. This was in the RS guidebooks and also in his videos. It is beautiful and the breakfast was nice. The owners and staff were very helpful. There is a laundromat a block away and there are a few choices for lunch and dinner that are reasonably priced. Fabulous location right on the main square and quiet in the evenings.
Another RS contributor recommended Montorio prior to our anniversary trip to the region a few years ago and it was superb. It's located down the hill from the town and a short stroll to the picturesque temple of San Biagio. The apartments are first rate and the views spectacular. Best of all for us was the free parking and easy access to the direct route out of town since we planned to use it as a base to explore the Tuscan countryside in our rental car.
It's self-catering so there's no breakfast provided, but we found a cute local market across the street that answered our purposes for snacks and light fare.
All in all it was one of the nicest places we stayed during our month in and around the hilltop villages of the Val D'Orcia.
