Reasonable is different to everyone but I recom. Hotel Aberdeen 2 blocks from Termini station.

Please indicate your hotel needs in euros or dollars. Reasonable is a nebulous term. Two choices I like are: the brand new b&b Armonio All' Opera on Via Viminale across the street from the Roma Opera House and Hotel Massimo D'Azgelia on Via Cavour. Cavour is more expensive.

Check veneer, com and tripadvisor.com for prices, map locations, and client reviews.

Buon viaggio,

Hotel Aberdeen is more than 2 blocks from Termini, but still close by within a 5 minute walk. I consider it to be reasonable for Rome and enjoyed my stay there.

And as others have said, Trip Advisor is a fantastic hotel resource.

Check out The Beehive, a very unique, reasonably priced budget boutique hotel.

I read somewhere (perhaps here) that the area near the train station wasn't all that great. Should this area be avoided if possible?

RB-what is the "ballpark" euro amount/night for the places you mentioned? Just curious -I may check them out too.

I was looking to spend between $100.00 to $125.00 (US dollars) a night for 2 people. I was also looking for a location that had good access to public transportion.

Another vote for Hotel Aberdeen although the rate may be slightly higher than the range you quoted-big cities are expensive in Europe, as they are here at home. Transportation options are numerous, lots of restaurants and stores, and very safe location-the Defense Ministry is right across the street from Hotel Aberdeen.

Bob - the Termini area is actually quite good. Lots of restaurants and some of the best transit links in Rome.

In some other cities the area around a train station can be seedy - but not in Rome.

The Termini area between the station and the Colosseum/Forum area is ok. Not as charming as the historic centre ie more modern (19C and early to late 20C) buildings. It's all relative of course! However, it not without interesting side streets and ancient/historic sites that have survived any redevelopment in the intervening years.

2nd vote for the Beehive - my daughter and I stayed there in Nov of '09 and are going to stay again later this year. Clean, cheap & they used to have a fabulous organic vegetarian cafe which has, sadly, closed.

Hi,
I liked Hotel Maryelen, close to station and they took great care of us - offering suggestions for dining, etc.

We wanted to stay in the Beehive June 20-22. We tried to get reservations in February, and they were already sold out. However they were very nice and recommended other places and invited us to come for breakfast!

Hotel Nardizzi American was reasonably priced and a short walk to the train station. I would stay there again.

My picky Italian friend told me to stay at Hotel Madison which is across the street from the station.

It seems to be about $100 CDN according to booking.com. I plan to stay there when I am in Rome in July.

The area immediately surrounding the Termini is a little seedy, and the area is very busy and noisy. There are much nicer and still inexpensive areas to stay in. Look in Trastevere. It's a very walkable and enjoyable area to stay in. It has tons of restaurants and a vibrant nightlife.
