Recommendations for bike tours or cooking classes/food tours

Has anyone taken a bike tour in Rome?

We would either like to do a tour in the city or somewhere leading out of town. I've seen ads for fat tire tours, but I wonder if there are any others someone has enjoyed. We're fit but don't want to do anything that would require us to wear spandex for the outing!

I'm also interested in either a cooking class or a food tour, with the complication that one of us can't eat dairy or pork (ok, it's me). I don't want to drag down the experience for anyone or totally waste my time and money, so maybe I should rephrase that and ask if anyone knows of a vegan(-ish) food experience instead.

I'm grateful for any advice. This is a truly last minute trip (booked today, arriving next Tuesday) and I'm trying to get some activities planned.

I took a bike tour with Top Bikes out to the catacombs via the Appian Way, then to aqueduct park and also to a sheep farm for a snack of pecorino cheese with some wine. Small group, using electric assist bikes. Highly recommend. The office is just up the street from the coliseum. They also have other tours within the city of Rome. I personally am a bit reluctant to consider biking in the city traffic.

I have also taken food tours in Testaccio and Trastevere with Eating Europe. I would also highly recommend those, with my personal favorite being Testaccio rather than Trastevere, although they are both good.

Wow, thanks for the ideas! I have lots of stuff to investigate now.

Patricia, I was wondering about how your Appian Way bike trip was traffic-wise. I've seen a few mentions about how much traffic there is, which was a surprise because I've never seen any photos with cars on it. How does this work? I seem to recall seeing that only Sunday was traffic-free.

Also intrigued by the many food ideas, especially the one that involves food and biking. I'm hoping the weather is dry enough for that kind of an outing.

Thank you, everyone, for jumping in so quickly with suggestions.

We enjoyed Eating Italy's Trastevere food tour in January. When we checked in our guide asked if we had any dietary restrictions. I'm sure they will be able to accommodate you if you contact them in advance of scheduling a tour.
