Recommendations for B&B's or 2-3* hotels in Florence?

My wife and I are planning to visit Florence for 6 days in Mid April and are looking for recommendations. We would like relatively close to the town center, obtain lower floor accommodations to minimize stair climbing ( or have an elevator ) and a host who can help point us plan local trips. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Hi Michael, we stayed in a B & B right on the Piazza San Giovanni called Soggiorno Battistero. We loved it, and you might also. There is an elevator to take you to the 3rd floor-what we know as the fourth. The views are of the Baptistery and the Duomo-you are right there! It can be noisy, but we loved being right in the thick of it for the three nights we stayed. The windows in our room had been converted to double pane, and there were solid wood panels on the interior that you can close over the windows. It's not for everyone, but it is quite unique. See Trip Advisor for reviews-some gripe that the breakfast was lacking, I disagree. And besides, you aren't going to Florence for the breakfast at the B & B. The owners were very helpful to us, Kelly is an American, and she and her husband, Lucca, run the place, no language issues. PM me if you'd like to see some photos of the place, and of Florence. Florence is incredible.

Best, Dave

Last year we stayed at Residenza Giotto B&B - http://www.residenzagiotto.it/en/

It is only steps from the Duomo and the Baptistry. It is on the second floor but they do have an elevator. We had a room with a view of the Duomo (you can request such a room when making a reservation). There are only 6 rooms. The staff was great and the breakfast was very good. You can sit out on their terrace for breakfast where you have great views of the Duomo and Baptistry. We would definitely stay there again. I would suggest that you book soon if you are going in April.

We have also stayed twice at the Tourist House Ghiberti which is located just behind the Duomo. It is also a great place to stay - more modern than the Giotto but no views. It is run by a husband and wife who were very friendly and helpful. Their facility is also on the second floor with an elevator. There is a sauna and a hot tub available to guests. This is hotel is very small also, probably 5-6 rooms. Would recommend either place. http://en.touristhouseghiberti.com/

Good luck with your planning.
